The Kinks were an English rock band formed in London in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. The Kinks' music drew from a wide range of influences, including American R&B and rock and roll initially and later adopting British music hall, folk, and country. The band gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fuelled by Ray Davies' wittily observational writing style. The Kinks and the songs of Ray Davies are now rightfully established as a great British institution. From the opening riff of You Really Got Me, The Kinks’ influence as pioneers in heavy metal, power pop, conceptual albums, and theatrical shows can be detected in much modern music.

This, and much more, can be seen on this YouTube channel exclusively devoted to these true British originals.

Dave is a fine guitar player!
One of Ray's best songs, great voice too.

The verse that begins at the 3:00 minute mark - I've always heard it as Ray explaining, and maybe apologizing in his own way, to Dave for the previous concept records. Dave's lusty harmonizing and his killer guitar work at the end describing his joy at doing what he loves best.

A fantastic song!! One of my favorite songs, as is the "Sleepwalker" album.

Late in their carreer. But one of the Kinks' greatest songs! Along with "He's Evil."

One of the band's best song. I actually have heard The Kinks do this song more times in concert than I have heard it on the radio.

There's a lady plays her favorite records
On the jukebox every day
All day long, she plays the same old songs
And she believes the things that they say

Other ladies like to prance around
And flirt and dance the whole night through
But she just sits and listens to her jukebox records
'Cause that's all that she wants to do

She sings along with all the saddest songs
And she believes the stories are real
She lets the music dictate the way that she feels

It's only jukebox music
Only jukebox music
It's only music
Only jukebox music
Only jukebox music

Seems to me she's in a fantasy
She's living in a world of her own
And we all agree that she's a mystery
Because she'd rather be all alone

Every guy will do his best to try
To put that music out of her head
Forget all the songs
And just dance to the music instead

It's only jukebox music
Only jukebox music
It's only music
Only jukebox music
Only jukebox music

It's all because of that music
That we're slowly drifting apart
But it's only there to dance to
So you shouldn't take it to heart

Music, only jukebox music
Only music, only jukebox music

It's only music
Only jukebox music
It's only music
Only jukebox music
Music
Only jukebox music
Music
Only jukebox music
Music
Only jukebox music
Music
Only jukebox music
Only jukebox music

Best track on the album IMO. Shame this and most of the others up to Phobia never got the critical acclaim they deserved. They played this at the Rainbow in 77. My car broke down on the North Circular after the concert just before Christmas. Luckily the tape player still worked as we waited for the AA.
