To some, they're creepy and crawly; to others, they're buzzy and beautiful. But whatever your feelings about #insects, they are the humming undercurrent to #life on #Earth and without them, our world would grind to a halt. That's the view of #biologist Dave Goulson, author of "Silent Earth: Averting the Insect Apocalypse". His book is both a love letter to insects and a wake-up call about their devastating decline. He joined us for Perspective to discuss his early passion for insects, their key roles in our ecosystems and how we can all do our part to protect them.

Something has happened to ladybugs or ladybird beetles here in southern states of US. They have doubled in size, are attracted to light and heat sources, appear to gather and breed even in winter. They are ' biting ', drawing blood and leave large lumps for days. They have amber wings furled under their polka dot wings and they do not lose them, continuing to fly when they get warmer.
Seems to like indoors and ceilings better than plants. The lizards, geckos avoid them . They have a strong scent when threatened or touched. I used to love ladybugs and brought them home to my garden. These bugs are invasive and do not drop after bug bombs. What happened?

A huge bulk of the animals shown in the footage aren't insects at all.
