He completely glossed over the most important part (obstacle) which the originator says is the underlying key to rewire your unconscious mind!

In 1991, German psychologist Gabrielle Oettingen studied a group of women in a weight-loss program by first asking them to predict how well they would do in the program. The results were shocking: the women who were pessimistic about losing weight, thinking that the process would be difficult and that they might not succeed, actually ended up losing an average of 24 pounds more than the positive thinkers!

Again, most of us have been taught to: ‘think positive…believe in yourself and your capabilities…stop being so negative…imagine it all working out…ignore the negative…don’t be a pessimist…etc.’

Why did the pessimistic women succeed at losing weight more than the optimistic women?
WOOP - the system that Tom mentions here. Also read her book, the details of the system are critical.

At the end of the day there are dozens of great concepts out there, it all comes down to getting clear on what you want and to go after it. Most people just don't do that. Don't be most people 😉

Tom, you got this one wrong, brotha. The "outcome" portion refers to what getting this "wish" will result in. It does not refer to a more specific form of goal. You're either riffing your way through this based on a hazy memory, or after only casually studying the concept, or your history with "S.M.A.R.T." goals is taking over as you're trying to recall details of W.O.O.P.

Tony Robbins was way ahead of the curve on this concept with his OPA or RPM Life Management System. See the similarities below:

O Outcome
P Purpose
A Actions

R Result
P Purpose
M Massive Action Plan or Map

W Wish (Your Desired Intent, Result or Outcome)
O Outcome (Your Why, Purpose, or Reasons)
O Obstacles (The main new addition beyond Tony's system)
P Plan (Your Action Plan)

Essentially, WOOP is OPA or RPM with the main change being obstacles incorporated into the sequence

Chapter 2 rough draft of my upcoming book "The Hero's Journey" Love this channel :) lmk feedback

Chapter 2: Fork in the Road

There comes a time in your journey through life when you will come to a fork in the road. And you will have to decide what path do you want to take. But don't think that this a one time decision. Every moment of your life you will have to decide.

One path is the easy common path, taken by millions. All of society and everyone around you is conspiring to push you down this path. Go to school, get a job, and fiddle the days away doing nothing but being amused by cheap thrills and complaining to yourself how much your life sucks. Sounds fun right? I call this the path of quiet desperation, or the sucker's path. It is easy, safe, and secure; but you're never really satisfied because you always have that feeling that you are somehow missing out. That there is something more to life but you never quite know what it is.

That something is the uncommon, less traveled by path; taken by the few. It is the complete and utter dedication of one's life to a larger-then-self purpose(s). This purpose could literally be anything you want, but to walk down this path you must be completely and utterly dedicated to your pursuit. Nothing can stand in your way, nothing can distract your laser like focus. The commitment required is total, only death can stop you from your goals. That is why I call this the warrior's path, and why so few walk down it. It is not easy to give one's life to something bigger than yourself. It takes blood, sweat, and tears to make a dream become reality. But every human who has ever been truly great has done so.

Most of people's lives (including mine up to this point) consist of running away from this fork in the road and so by default they choose the sucker's path. For many people it's not even a choice, the incredible momentum of societal pressure to fit in with the herd is enough to ensure that most people will never be a warrior. And honestly who could blame them? Why be a warrior when you can be a civilian with a cushy 9-5 and a guaranteed pension? Honestly. Being a warrior is tough. Messy. Dangerous. Uncertain. Why even bother facing all your personal demons when it's not necessary to your survival? Why put your life on the line and risk everything? Why? I'll tell you why. Because you will never be truly happy if you don't.

It is my upmost belief that every human has a talent, passion, or dream(s) that they were put on this Earth to do. And it is up to each of us to decide whether we want to double down and commit fully to achieving it. Do not think it is easy, especially in the society of instant gratification that we live in today. But in my opinion, the alternative is much worse: to waste our days away in an apathetic haze, never leaving our comfort zones of quiet desperation. For the past 19 years that is basically what I and 99% of the people that I have observed have done. Consuming mindless content on our phones, tvs, and laptops. Escaping the boredom of everyday life through trivialized drama and emotional ego based arguments.

Well me personally, I have had enough. I am fed up with society. I am fed up with the world. I am fed up with myself. I am making my stand here and now. I will not allow myself to waste my life as just another number in the system working a job I hate to get by. It may be hard, but I will change my habits, change my thoughts, and change my life as I work to achieve my goals. I am done with being a soft sucker who feels sorry for myself. It is time to transform into a warrior, who will fight to the death for a dream.

This is what this book is about. War. Not any lovey dovey personal development bullshit. You can get that elsewhere. I am writing this to get to the truth, and sometimes the truth is ugly. It's not easy to admit I've been a sucker my whole life. But it's true. You know what else is true? All it takes is one decision to change. So get ready. We are about to embark a wonderful journey together. Are you ready to be a warrior? Who are you? What is your calling? Only you can know. But maybe I can help.

Interesting, the theory on thinking too much of a goal pacifies someone due to emotions released. Similar to how it is said that planning a vacation is better than actually taking one because it's the endorphins released from the thought of going and expectations. There has to be some fine line between the threshold of complacency with the thought of achieving the goal, and continuing to push oneself to see the goal through.

Hi guys! can someone help, 00:36 Tom talks about a psychological principle when you think about your dream so much you don't achieve it due to a part of the brain that makes it feel so real. Can someone tell me where I can read more about it? I've done some research but don't seem to find anything specific about it. Tom if you can share, please! =) thanks guys keep it up.
