My favorite way to explain how big a billion is by understanding that in a human lifetime, if you were to start counting from 1, for 16 hours a day, you couldn't count out loud to 1 billion before you died. This is allowing for an astounding average of 4 seconds for each number and no breaks or sick days. It would take a total of 126 years and 8 months of counting nonstop or at 16 hours a day, 169 years, 2 months.
