A little tip for your DAW project studio guys out there. Learning about channel strips took all my recordings from local demo / garage band to sounding like the records I love.

Hey Marty, thanks for the tip. it appears this video was released a few years ago so I'm Johnny come lately to the party. nevertheless, appreciate what you do for the recording community. I myself is just now mixing with channel strips and I do find the workflow so less cluttered and complicated. I do have the waves channel strip but I recently purchased the SSL 2 native channel strip and the bus compressor for a whopping $49 normally $400 plus.( crazy ridiculous prices) I jumped right on it. What's your take on it? Also eventide just put their version of a channel strip on sale also for $29. I haven't bought it but thinking about it just because of the different gui. But I will check out the 30 day trial. Subscribing to your channel.

Great reminder!
I tend to forget this fact! :)

The SSL Channel Strip is very good. Have you tried the Scheps Omni Channel Strip by Waves? That one is a Swiss army knife, and you can add other waves plugins into that plugin to make it a one stop shop for each channel. Pretty darned cool.

i think this is a mixing secret not recording (i thought you're gonna put it in your input channel while recording). anyway, waves SSL is a great plugin and kudos to your guitar playing, i miss guitar riffs like this. in addition to this please check DSEQ by TBProAudio, it's very good in carving out resonances and harsh freqs.

What are your go-to presets for rhytm guitar and lead guitar (solos)? Thanks!

Thanks! If I'm using Toontrack's EZmix mastering presets - is this waves plugin instead of EZmix? Or should be combined with it?

You make a good point, but you don't explain what the channel strips are doing. There are ways to get the sound from one of those presets using other methods. Solutions like this don't sit well with me because of the "make it cool" button factor. I need to know what is going on in those strips if I ever run into issues and need to troubleshoot something. I'm not comfortable with just flipping on a switch to make things sound good.
