Ha! Exactly my kit too. I notice no arm rest though. I have an Ittok arm rest. I still think the Troika hasn't really been bettered. I've had mine since 1989 or thereabouts. All extremely low mileage though, as I do most of my everyday background listening with my earlier Thorens TD160/Hadcock/Nagaoka MP30. Keeps the LPs in good shape and sounds pretty good too.

Strange comments regarding sound?
I think the cartridge and speakers may play a part in how the record sounds!😮

Party on Wayne. I am in the same boat. I had my tt plugged in for years not realizing that the capacitors were under load and failing. Oh what a fool I was. I am now deciding on my best path to music nirvana. Any suggestions?

It looks so classic. Ask a random non-DJ:ing person over 40 to draw a record player and this would be probably be it (especially if the person is British). I would be really interesting to see a frequency response plot/graph and wow and flutter specs for this turntable though.

I have an LP12 from the early 1980's. It's been in storage and needs some TLC. Best sounding turntable regardless of price...

Very nice and lovely constructed turntable. Too bad about all the cultist hype promulgated by it's maker Ivor T and the many "Linnie" fan boys that circulated the scene back in the 80s. The hyperbole and snake oil was beyond anything I'd ever experienced and I almost got caught up in the Linn hysteria until I objectively listened for myself and used my own judgement instead of what I was told I'm supposed hear by Linn cultists. I owned a well set up Linn LP12 and it sounded very nice indeed but nowhere near the grotesquely exaggerated claims. I also owned a nicely tweaked Thorens TD125 which sounded every bit as good as my Linn. The two tables were hard to tell apart in listening tests. The cartridge used made a much larger difference than the turntable itself. The Thorens seemed a tad more spacious and the Linn a bit richer in the bass was all I could hear. Changing something as simple as the mat could make one of the tables preferable over the other. All things being equal I slightly favoured the Sondek if only for it's construction and physical beauty. But I still cringe at some the Linn cheer leading BS in the British audio press back in the 80s.

The Linn LP12 always sounds over damped to me, like the sound has been compressed with all the space and 'air' squeezed out.

Am I missing something...? It sounds okay but no better than any other sub £500 turntable.

The hype surrounding this over-priced turntable...Yawn.
