I used to handle canines and there is such a thing called "leash aggression." Meaning, whenever you held the dog back, the more it wanted to aggressively unleash towards another dog, and a fight would inevitably ensue.

I also played baseball (at a competitive level) and often wondered if the same mentality applied. I was a catcher and noticed whenever I attempted to hold a batter back, he would almost always attempt to move towards the mound. And when I didn't, the batter would just posture and masquerade without any fights, no one would get thrown out, and we'd get back to baseball.

I just thought that was an interesting observation.
