Self employed “Entrepreneur”

Trigger warning: this post is bound to offend somebody.

Like many I used to languish in the “struggle porn” of being an entrepreneur. I was convinced that killing myself for my business was the right to do.

I would slave away without regard for time.

And then, one day, my best friend asked “what is the one job that you can never be fired from or replaced in?"

I didn’t answer immediately.

I took a few days.

About a week later I called & said I'd got the answer. It’s being a dad.

You see, I thought my ability to provide and protect as a man started and ended with money ONLY.

I didn’t realise that being physically available for my kids, giving to my kids, growing my kids, guiding my kids was the best I should be doing.

Money doesn’t raise good children.

Parents do.

And this switched how I approached my business.

I got a mentor who is in my industry but infinitely more successful than me.

I asked him, what am I doing wrong?

He said, you’re not creating leverage for yourself.

You need to create operating leverage for yourself so that you can disappear for 90 days from your business and the machine keeps running.

Blew my mind.

But more importantly, it CHANGED MY LIFE.

So, today, I am eerily conscious of my over-indulgent work ethic.

Just this past Saturday I found myself at the office working on a strategic onboard. But quickly reminded myself, create leverage.

This is why we built the @schoolofscale_

It’s a home for the entrepreneurs that want to learn how to duplicate themselves so that they can create leverage.

Can you take 90 days friends? That’s the question.

If the answer is no, start making the changes now.

However I will say this if you're running a mom and pop shop you just now started and the intentions for the the shop was to run your own business then I think as long as you're in the black not in the red then yeah you're self-employed but you're doing what you intended to do but if you don't go into the business with the idea that you're going to make sure this business is making over the amount needed to hire employees and oay the rent and etc then I think you'll stay self-employed I have an ice cream shop I bought it from another person they had other businesses so it didn't matter to them if the ice cream shop was making a ton of money cuz they already had other businesses that was making tons of money the ice cream shop was just a place to work and they were giving the money away to the family so for me this is supposed to be the way I make an income and now I have to overhaul the shop in a way that I can do that
