To be fair, I’ve never seen Sabine and a pair of electrons in the same room together

I love the direction you are taking your channel, and the way you are improving it. You are making it fun, as well as keeping the information flowing, you are making science interesting. Keep up the great work!

You can suggest topics for next week's science news (and also for the topical video on Saturday) by subscribing to our newsletter (it's free!) and replying to it

If you already did this last week, many thanks for the suggestions!

Thank you for these videos, Sabine. I always look forward to them.

Thanks for clarifying what the Spooky Action Nobel Prize actually was about. There are so many terribly confusing news articles out there, whose authors clearly misunderstood a thing or two ...

Top notch title and intro! 👌

Its very nice to hear modern takes by educated people in the science community, hopefully keeps me a little less ignorant c:

It was cruel telling Elon to go play with his friends.
That may have retraumatized him.

You are now, officially, my favorite physicist. Who'd have thought, indeed.

4:05 that would be profitable until the first ad is shown and it causes backlash and nobody wants to touch this idea again.

There was already somebody trying to create "art" by polluting the sky

Every time I watch a Sabine video, I am reminded of what true excellence can produce. Thanks again, dear one! You are the very best videographer out there and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

The world is a sketchy place but now that I know Sabine is on call, I feel safe like a baby in a warm blanket!

Another great video. Let's hope that crass commercialism will not be allowed to fill the sky with more space junk.

On the other hand I live in Melbourne Australia and am about to email my friend in Utah (who bears a close physical resemblance to Sabine) that in 200 to 300 million years Australia will be bang up against North America so I will be able to drive to visit her.

I feel its important to note that this is the first known case of polyethylene (PE) degradation in nature, but the paper does not specify which kind PE the saliva can degrade. For those not aware there are several different kinds of PE plastics, PE terephthalate(PET), High-Density PE (HDPE), Low Density PE (LDPE), just to name the most widely known. It would be great if the PEases (as they were called in the paper) found in the worm saliva could break down all PE types, but this seems optimistic.

Plastics however have so called Resin Identification Codes (RICs) which are informally know as the plastic’s recycling code. They are supposed to help consumers quickly distinguish between plastics when recycling, importantly because the plastics have different processes when being recycled, as they have different properties. There is, and has been, a lot of confusion around RICs.

These different PE types listed earlier all have their own RICs, and as far as I know, with good reason. They have different requirements to be degraded.

Hopefully I am wrong and these PEases can be used to degrade all PE types (or at least the most common ones) but I find it unlikely.

Please note that I am an amateur. I am not educated in the field.

The original hunch I got that something was fishy about this came from my high school chemistry. A bit of further research on PEs, plastics, RICs, Plastic decomposition have further strengthened my stance. This does not mean I am right, and frankly I would be more than happy to be proven wrong.

Another great video which not only informs but also amuses. I'm really looking forward to being able to drive from the UK to Australia! You're The Woman Sabine.
