Just bought a house with my girlfriend and one of the things she wants is a desk bed. I working with a pretty small space in our 9'7 x 9'2 shared office space and I think this might just be the perfect thing to do.

This is a cool idea and very unique to the typical stand alone bed you mostly come across.
Great job on the structural aspects for load bearing. Only three comments: spreading the wood glue across the surface provides a much better bond and less chance for failure as there's a bigger surface area; pine is actually quite susceptible to warping and bowing in general but securing with wood glue and screws helps minimize that (hence the first comment about spreading the wood glue); and, suggest to fasten the ladder rungs with screws (could do at an angle from below into the 2x4 posts, or pocket holes if you have the jig, or even down into the 1x4s).

Nice job ⚘ better prepare and paint all parts before you screw them together especially the ladder as ONE part 😉

Could you say how much you spent on wood and supplies (not including tools and paint)?

Amazing job! How did you secure the ladder to the floor?? I'm thinking about doing this for my 9 year old in his room.

Congrats on this fantastic project. I am thinking of doing something similar. Could you share the height of the room up to the ceiling? Thanks

I bet your son was incredibly happy to finally have his own room.

And it looks like there is room to do activities.

How do you like the ceiling fan/light combo? Does it get good air circulation? I’ve seen it come through on ads and have considered it for my kids’s rooms. Love this build and I’m considering doing something similar for my boys. Thanks!

Thank you for this! About to build 2 of them in matching books. How did you secure the floating 2x6 to the footer and header on the wall?

Can I ask what Wood you used for the original 2x6's, and where you got it? I don't have many lumber yards near me, and people have told me not to use pine from Home Depot for furniture.

Also you square and plane the wood before using it? I don't have a jointer or planer so I'm not sure if it's a necessary step

Shot in the dark here, but i also have a window that im going around, and ive been searching all over for ideas on how to do that without compromising the trim, how did you guys do that, and hows the support on that end since its not anchored into the wall.

Thanks in advance.
