In this video we go over some of the great ways you can view your Unifi cameras and discuss how super easy it is to setup. Especially when compared to some of the older NVR systems out there. #unifi #unifiprotect #ethernetblueprint

You said Unifi is expensive... but honestly, I work as a tech installing CCTV and door access systems for large industry and commercial environments. For the feature set, Unifi is the least expensive option out there. Their UDM-SE, being a router, POE switch, and NVR all in one for $500 is an absolute steal of a deal. Toss in an AI pro that does facial recognition and License plate detection for another $500 is astonishing: all without annual licensing. And even their less expensive cameras have object detection: human, vehicle, and animal. Most cameras that have that for commercial spaces cost in the realm of $400 each at the cheapest. Axis, for instance, starts at $400 for a 1080P camera. A comparable Axis, Pelco, or Hanwa camera that can do what the G4 bullet can do would cost $800-1k.

Surprised no one brought this up, you can easily enable RTSP via the camera settings which opens up a ton of more viewing options. My favorite is hooking Protect up with HomeAssistant. That allows you to setup lots of interesting automations such as custom notifications, focusing/full screening a camera when it notices movement possibly also turn on the lights in that room/outdoors, etc…

You missed that UniFi Talk Touch and Touch Max phones will display the Protect cameras. If someone rings your UniFi G4 Doorbell, you can answer them on the Talk phone and carry on a two-way conversation with them. I have a Touch Max in my office and it is great to be able to pull up my cameras on the phone.

If you are an apple tv owner the protect app is available and you can watch the cameras that way.

Accessing the cameras from my car was the ultimate nerd moment. Love it.

you forgot about the cheapest most convenient way to watch your cameras
everyone streams tv these days there a protect app for android and ios for tvs its literally a click away and u dont have to change the tv input like u do with the view port if the tv is stand alone specific for viewing cameras then the view port makes more sense thats how i set it up in customers houses

Biggest hurdle for us on Residential, is wiring. We're in a brand new build and to put cameras outside and wire them up would require running cables on the outside of the house since we don't have a crawl space and there is no crawl space between the 1st and 2nd floors.

I have several Amazon Fire 10" & 8" Tablets strategically mounted throughout the house w/the Protect App installed on them. I used to have @5 more tablets running since my old camera system (TrendNet) made it too cumbersome to change what cameras I was viewing. Setting up 4 camera layouts makes it easy to 'swipe' to change to whatever camera I want and click on it to have it fill up the 10" tablet screen. I am able to view the cameras on my Google TV (but haven't figured out how to view an individual camera since that would need a mouse?). So while not on a TV - I'm able to view my cameras without using my TVs (and way cheaper than the Connect Display or the other option). The tablets are powered with USBC to power adapter so real easy since they are placed near outlets anyways. The tablets are on 24/7 and don't have issues with them and been using them for years!

recently i got a cloud gateway max and was impressed that it could import all four of my existing onvif dahua cameras from 2015 and record them all 24/7 and give ma a remote access solution for them that included history (which the camera vendor's app never supported). When I got a non-3rd-party camera I really liked that the non ai cameras still showed pet detections and people detections in the recordings, so longer term I'll probably swap out the dahua cameras

So, I’m curious — what has been your experience with Unifi Protect when scaling to 15-30 cameras?

My older AVtech DVR/NVR systems could display 256 cameras from 12 multiple locations. Their interface was much more user friendly as well allowing playback from more than 1 camera.

Congrats on reaching 10k subscribers!
I’m very familiar with Protect but this video was still full of tidbits of new information. Thanks! Only complaint is that I would have loved not hearing about how bad older systems are.

I like Ubiquiti camera system too, but we should be aware that remote viewing our cameras through a cloud server could be a potential risk; here’s is the 2023 incident: “users of Ubiquiti networking devices, ranging from routers to security cameras, have reported seeing other people’s devices and notifications through the company's UniFi cloud services.”

Have you made that notification video yet? My wife and I dumped our nest camera doorbell camera and have installed the Poe version of the UniFi doorbell cam. We love and are using protect app to get notifications. I had some issues with adding my wife to the system and are not really sure on how we are going to these notifications when not at home. Any help you can give on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks I have learned a ton of stuff watching you.

There is also the option of using the Unify Protect App on Apple TV (probably on other systems too)

In my house we use Google os tvs. Unifi protect also works on these tvs. It acts like any other tv app. Here are the devices we use that I know will work: TCL google tvs, Nvidia shields and probably but not confirmed any android tv box that has the full play store.

To view my cameras I use my Apple TV in my living room or bedroom. It’s easier and can do more with it. I installed several systems and all the clients wants to be able to see it on their tvs so I just installed a Apple TV for them and they was happy with that

I recently installed a swann system at a job. 4 wired cams to their nvr that we put down in the basement by the electrical panel and junction for all cable TV and internet. I then ran an hdmi and usb up to their office so he could access it from there.

Love your videos, have used many of your tips, and subscribe to your channel. I thought I might see how to add a non-admin user to my Protect. Essentially just to use the Protect app on their iPhone and view only (recordings and live) for the cameras. How do I do that?
