On Tuesday 26 May 2020, UCL Chemical Engineering hosted a taster lecture entitled:

Abstract:

Providing good quality healthcare to people is a key priority for the countries across the globe. Solving healthcare related problems requires working with researchers and practitioners from various disciplines and domains including medical science, engineering and physical sciences. Domain expertise, computational models, experimental and clinical data, all of these have to be blended together to formulate and solve complex computational and mathematical models. The mathematical models comprise of multi-scale systems including cells, organs, medical devices. Solution of these models will help improve our understanding of why and how diseases manifest and spread, and can be prevented, diagnosed or treated. While the benefits of solving healthcare related mathematical and computational models are numerous, these problems pose many challenges. In this talk I will give an overview of the process systems engineering approaches for solving healthcare problems and their potential impact on the quality of life of the patients.
