the clicking from the hard drive is an automatic head parking function so the discs don't get damaged when you move the laptop. it actually sounds extremely healthy, I'd bet it's a low hours drive.

You putting a original 98 CD in an untested cd drive was scary especially with some of the scratching noises it was making.
I would probably have stuck to burnt disks with this one.

I remember, back on the mid 2000s, i was at uni and my friend gave me his old laptop as he upgraded to a modern one. It was a Toshiba and it was about the same size as that. I took it home in the mid term break, left it on the dining room table. My mam walked in later on and asked "Paul! Whats that box on the table?!" "Its a laptop, mam!" "Oh..." 👀🤣🙈

So basically, it would take a while to find the best replacement floppy drive and CD drive for Gateway laptops of the era the one in this video was in, unlike replacement drives of many other classic computers. That could be very interesting, and mind-blowing at once!

I have that laptop, when my uncle (that was his) gave me that laptop. It was Windows 95 Microsoft Internet Explorer edition, then I upgraded to Windows 2000.

UPDATE: I have it now and installed windows 95 B and it has the desktop update for windows 95
