Tighter lockdown restrictions are being introduced for more people living in parts of the North West of England to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. From midnight on Saturday, residents in Oldham and parts of Blackburn and the Pendle district in Lancashire won't be able to socialise with anyone outside their own household. They have been told to avoid all but essential journeys on public transport and gatherings such as weddings and funerals are being limited to twenty people. Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten’s report by health correspondent Dominic Hughes.

HOW can you not socialise with family members from different house holds. Yet be allowed to go and do an 8 hour shift with work collegues ... who happen to live in a different house hold 🤦

Don't go to the big supermarkets and don't buy online to boycott them, go to local shops instead.

So you can't socialise outside your household but bars and restaurants remain open (where people from different households WILL socialise)

Kinda contradicting each other

And so the zombie apocalypse has actually arrived, who'd have guessed the extra sinister twist to the story- they are all wearing masks.

The town I live in has been in a localised lockdown but it hasn’t improved our infection rate. It’s been a steady zero cases right through.

Imagine a virus so deadly you have to take a test to see if you have it

So we cant meet up in each others households where there would be less chances of infection but can meet up in pubs and restaurants where hundreds of people are coming and going doesn't make sense

So... Stay home unless you're earning or spending money? How many lives is the economy worth?

No one in my local area even seems to social distance anyway 😕

If animals and plants have tested positive (President of Tanzania speech), are we going to isolate animals and plants? Should we stop eating all together? God only knows who's pressuring the BBC to vomit this BS. As if any government doesn't want to get rid of their old and infirm. Save a fortune on pensions and long-term care eh?

It's a great idea. Anytime anyone coughs, everything should be shut down, even if the test means nothing. This is the best thing. Let's just shut everything down and stop looking for reasons.

'And as one source put it, it could be a bumpy autumn for cases...' Who was that then, the local bin man? Eff off with your fearmongering.

Report from UK Parliament and their Department For International Development (DFID)
THE GATES FOUNDATION
59. The Department says its most significant engagement is with the Gates Foundation, with whom it has collaborated over the last ten years on a wide range of projects and programmes, especially those in the health, agriculture, financial services and sanitation sectors. The DFID-Gates relationship has involved working together on global advocacy for international development issues, such as partnering with the UK's G8 Presidency on Africa in 2005, and launching a new push for Polio Eradication with the UK Prime Minister in January 2011.

Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) Multi-donor fund. UK Government, followed by the Gates Foundation, were the largest contributors to the June 2011 replenishment

The Gates Foundation told us, "We have a good relationship with DFID". They emphasised the frequent contact between the two agencies, with Jeff Raikes calling it "a regular relationship, with regular interaction. Many of our staff will be in contact as regularly as weekly."[117] The Foundation told us that it and DFID had now "identified contact points to co-ordinate the relationships between our organisations".[118]

SMALLER FOUNDATIONS
65. Gates' experience of regular contact with DFID was not shared by smaller, UK-based foundations. The Baring Foundation said DFID "has tended to concentrate on relationships with the largest funders such as the Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust and Comic Relief".[119] The Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), whilst in many ways highly complimentary about DFID as an organisation, [120] highlighted a problem raised by a number of other foundations: the availability of DFID staff time to engage with them.
