Does the concept of Heaven & Hell make any sense? Is the Universe Metaphysical or Natural? Does Salvation depend on Faith or Works? Will we wake up and be resurrected in a flash instant like Paul tells us in Corinthians? When we die is that it? Is Eternal Life possible?
We discuss these questions and more...

"If you pray to the wrong god, you might just make the right one madder and madder." —Homer J. Simpson

Often anti apologetics can get convoluted in logical fallacies and philosophical theories. Most people lose interest because the discussion is ultimately impractical for their needs. This conversation gets it! Take the religious assertions and unpack them for what they imply. Bringing in logical fallacies or philosophy is a detour rather than the straightest path to what is real. This approach resonates with me. Thank you for your efforts.

Great episode that got right to the heart of some of the most fundamental and inescapable flaws of many religions, particularly Xtianity and Islam which are founded in promises of eternal life of reward or punishment at the hands of an omni-God. I’m adding Mr. Pierce’s book to my must read list.

"... heaven and hell is emotional blackmail ..."

Exactly.

It's not just that God knew 90% of humanity would reject him and go to hell. The bible actually teaches that God fashioned some vessels for wrath and others for honor. Humanity's eternal torture is some strange glorification process in which God's is supposed to display his holiness, and his grace, which is bestowed on those he chose before the world began. That is the calvanist view which is more sinister in my opinion than the one held by non calvanist.

I can really appreciate the way you guys dissected the logic of this. The title says it all "It Makes No Sense" It never did even when I was a kid. It must of been the book I found on Greek Myths when I was eight.

I am sorry to say that I had an "emotional attachment" to Christianity/evangelicalism for at least 35 years of my lifeg.Even when the church I was going to, at first, started slowly breaking up, and the so-called 'answers" I was seeking through apologetics were not as solid and convincing as I would have liked, I shoved all that down in exchange for the idea of going to heaven when I died and avoiding hell(completely emotional).Another big thing that scared me was that if I quit believing in what the Bible had to say(and Jesus), my life would no longer be worth living-completely meaningless-with no purpose.I had been an existentialist(without knowing it)and an extreme negaholic since my early teenage years and I did not want to go back there. So, yeah, probably ninety percent of what Christianity is about is emotionalism.Very few have been able to gaze into the abyss without being terrified or driven to insanity(Nietzsche). For the ones that have been able-it's time to live your life as you see fit.

Everybody claims to have been born into the *true* faith/denomination. In reality, everybody argues that it IS the *true* faith/denomination precisely because he was born into it: in other words, circular reasoning. Heck, even CONVERTS engage in this: at one point, a convert makes a leap of faith which is not necessarily based on logic or reasoning. He then justifies his conversion afterward, in the same way that a cradle member of the faith does.

Preachers spend a lot more time going on about Hell as it is an easy concept to describe, Heaven is much tougher as there won't be any sex, alcohol, you'll never be hungry but nothing much to do except listen to angels playing harps for all eternity.
