The two-way ANOVA compares the mean differences between groups that have been split into two independent variables (called factors). You need two independent categorical variables and one continuous dependent variable
Assumptions
• Dependent variable is either interval or ratio (continuous).
• The dependent variable is approximately normally distributed for each combination of levels of the two independent variables.
• Homogeneity of variances of the groups formed by the different combinations of levels of the two independent variables.
• A researcher was interested in whether writing was influenced by their socioeconomic status(SES) and their gender. The researcher then divided the participants by gender (Male/Female) and then again by (SES)(low level/middle level/high level).
we separated the individuals into their appropriate level(group) by using the two independent variables and labeled them "Gender" and "SES)". For "Gender", we coded males as "0" and females as "1", and for "SES)", we coded low level as "1", middle as "2" and High as "3".
Test homogeneity of variances:
homogeneity of variances is tested using Levene's Test for Equality of Variances.
This is included in the main procedure for running the two-way ANOVA, so we get to evaluate whether there is the homogeneity of variances at the same time.
