“The Economics and Future of Electric Vehicles”
Mark P. Mills
Author, _The Cloud Revolution: How the Convergence of New Technologies Will Unleash the Next Economic Boom and a Roaring 2020s_

This speech was given on November 12, 2024, during a Hillsdale College CCA seminar on “Economic Issues and Controversies.”

------------------------------

------------------------------

Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.

The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.

By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

Just bought a 2006 Subaru Forester with 139K miles for $3500. Cost to license was $283.20. Drives like a new car. Uses gasoline. I'm 75 years old so probably no electric car for me

The most energy efficient car you can drive is the one you’re driving now. Meaning, the resources consumed to provide the new car more than offsets any energy savings of the new car.

The key is don’t buy a new car until the wheels fall off the one you have now.

So great to see intelligent, reasonable, educated, capable and experienced people finally get their voices back because people are finally starting to listen. Use your own brain, do your own homework, if you don’t trust the government, and I don’t, why would you trust social media?

I have been a certified mechanic for 41 years. What Mr mills is saying I've been saying the same thing for 20 years. Except nobody has listened to me. However this explination is one of the best I have herd so far. What Mr Mills was able to do that I haven't been able to do is bring the factual data that proves his claim.

Everyone is focused on vehicles…..which only represent 11% of CO2 emissions. They’re doing this because this is the easiest sector to manipulate……..think about it people, YOU are the lowest, most manipulatable entity in this discussion.

I've started to see my neighbors opt for Hybrids once their leases of EV's are up. When asked why, range stress, wait times mid trips and full/broken charge areas are the primary reasons.

Is this really about electric cars, or is it about control??

By now, it should be obvious to all that the primary objective of the religion of Climate Catastrophe that drives the EV mandate is not about replacing all gasoline and diesel vehicles with electric vehicles. The objective is elimination of personal transportation. The WEF has made this clear in their policy documents. That is why the timeframe for achieving the climate targets is so divorced from reality as to seem like a form of psychosis or, perhaps, evidence of panic associated with fear that one of these days, people will wake up and realize they have been duped. Germans are presently getting a dose of that which is not going away. We'll see if it wakes them up.

On the exit from urban living, city governments have done everything they can to encourage the trend. Crap urban schools, high crime accompanied by "defund police" lunacy, unjustifiably high city taxation for little benefit, filthy cities, dangerous subways and prosecution of people with the temerity to defend themselves or others...why wouldn't people relocate to the burbs?

I live in Canada, in the country. I work on a farm and drive 25 minutes each way to work in my 4x4 pickup truck. No transit, no bicycle on those roads in the winter. We produce less than 6% of the world's carbon. Our trees absorb over 12% of the worlds carbon, so we are carbon positive.
The Premier of Ontario is removing bike lanes in cities like Toronto because they are eating up car lane real-estate. We pay carbon tax for nothing more that the suffering of our people. Our leading candidate to win the next Federal election dosent want any elected MP's involved with the WEF. You people want to seriously try and effect the worlds pollution go preach you wokeism where the real polluters are, China, India, Russia. Meanwhile I'll be up high in the air in my GMC 4x4, you people give your heads a shake.

Forcing less people to drive and most of those who do to drive electric (that can probably be turned off) is a great way to reduce autonomy and increase government dependency.

EV has nothing to do with emissions. It’s about control. Certain people want to control what you can and cannot do.

Living in Australia a country almost the size of the continental USA, but due to a small population and most live on or near the coast we are forced to have a heavy reliance on motor vehicles. Our rail system does not reach into a lot of the outback farming country so there is a heavy reliance on trucks to deliver the crops and wool. Our Federal Minister for Energy has been brainwashed into the green dream, he is closing down our coal fired power stations at an alarming rate relying on wind and solar. We are now being asked not to use air conditioners or washing machines on a couple of hot days we experienced recently. We are not yet into the peak of summer. Our current infrastructure cannot handle the base load let alone power electric vehicles ! I recently took a trip past Canberra our home of the federal ed recently. We are not yet into the peak of summer. Our current infrastructure cannot handle the base load let alone power electric vehicles ! I recently took a trip down to Melbourne from Sydney and drove past the Australian Capital Territory and was horrified to see the hills strewn with wind turbines (most not turning) scarring the once beautiful landscape. Don't worry Australia is digging minerals out of the ground at an alarming rate and exporting them to China. We are also exporting coal that China uses for steel production but they are dumping it at sea and storing it for later use.

The government is not elected to bend us to their will but to bend government to our(the voter)will.

Yes its not about EV's or CO2 or anything else, its CONTROL.

This lecture should be mandated on every mainstream platform. The public deserves to be informed objectively and not perpetually force fed EV propaganda.

There isn't enough electricity production, worldwide, to power every single individual internal combustion engine passenger car, truck, moped, scooter, or motorcycle in the United States of America if each vehicle were instantaneously converted into the most efficient electric version of the same type vehicle.

The internal combustion engine commercial trucks, busses, trains, ships, planes, and construction equipment in the United States alone would account for approximately 10, 000 times the current worldwide maximum electrical generation capacity.

Then, throw into the equation that nuclear power generation is the most efficient, followed by hydroelectric dams, and anyone who has the ability to think critically can immediately understand that the entire Green Energy narrative is nothing more than a grand Ponzi Scheme designed to defraud taxpayers in every single Westernized nation into voting for a Marxist/Socialist WOKE agenda that is not in their own best interests, much less the best interests of future generations.

Just look at the collaspe of Germany over the past 3 decades as the entire country was de-nuclearized and de-fossil fuelalized as far as electricity production was concerned and its current inability to meet even a small percentage of its total electricity requirements. Where once it had been able to meet all of its requirements, civilian, military, and industrial.

It’s funny: I am listening to this while I am waiting in a rather long queue in front of the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart. It seems that quite a lot of people still do like cars.
Good!!
