At the end of the 40s - beginning of the 50s, my father was staff sergeant in the french colonial troops operating in North Africa, fighting against Algerian fellaghas. He had a bunch of "tirailleurs sénégalais" in his platoon. According to him, they were awsome, brave and courageous fighters with no fear of death. When I was in the military I met some soldiers from Senegal : outstanding and very professional guys ! Even if their military parade looks funky, I have much respect for them !

These guys came to Sierra Leone during the civil war. They were deployed at Port Loko town with the Malians. The RUF rebels hit them only once taking so many casualties. The next thing we know, they withdrew their troops.
