I think the detail that should be here is theres two kinds of spider silk a spider produces one is the hard stuff and one is the glue the hard stuff doesnt snap but the connection points made with the glue like web do thats why you can just break it away while the individual strands are still strong.

Well Ive never walked face first into steel but I have a spider web (and its not easy to get off your face) so will have to take your word on that lol
