Eswatini Opposition Leader "Poisoned" | Firstpost Africa

Eswatini's Opposition leader Mlungisi Makhanya, 46, was poisoned as part of an alleged assassination attempt in neighboring South Africa, his party People's United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) said. Makhanya has been living in exile in South Africa's capital Pretoria since 2022 after his home in Eswatini was set alight in an alleged bomb attack by state agents. Eswatini, formerly Swaziland, is the last remaining absolute monarchy in Africa. Its current King Mswati III has been on the throne since 1986. The kingdom has responded to calls for multi-party elections in recent years with violent repression.
