Finally, the ending that I remember! Modern versions of "Shane" seem to have omitted Joey's final call. Who knows why modern versions edit the ending, but the film feels incomplete without Joey's final goodbye. Thank you!

Here after watching The Negotiator, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. Good movie! Needed a reminder. Thanks for posting.

Thanks so much for posting this.  I have spent hours on the internet on numerous occasions trying to prove to myself that my memory was not faulty in remembering the final call from Joey in the movie Shane was, "Bye, Shane".  It's a poignant and important moment in the film, because it shows that at that moment, Joey finally realizes he will not see Shane again.  The idiots who edited this out are just that—idiots.

I first saw the movie in the mid 60's as a lad, there was something dreamlike about it, and it has been my favorite Movie every since.
I recorded the movie off TV back in 1992...Joe screams at the top of his lungs "G'Bye Shane" as Shane is seen from the front riding up the foothills, the final scene show Shane riding limply in the saddle through the graveyard and he disappears behind the 'graveyard hill' as the movie fades out.
This I believe symbolizes his death.

There is a discussion of this on tcm.com. In fact, that was what prompted me to post this. I recorded it some time ago. As no one else seemed to have it, I put it on YouTube. Although the video is bad, due to my primitive capabilities, the sound comes through as good as on my disk. Here is the URL for the Shane thread (you will have to copy and paste, as I can't place the link:

Thank you, slaypaul. A similar disagreement has developed on the IMDB message boards. ( I cannot seem to include the link, so you'll have to go to "Shane" and scroll down to the Boards..."Question About the Last scene." I'll jump in at TCM.

Cheers!
