An extraordinary and illuminating performance of this splendid sonata ! Especially after just hearing Richter's version, which by comparison seems pedestrian and unimaginative. Sokolov is sometimes a little too fussy for my taste though. Some added ornamentation in Haydn is customary and desirable, but IMHO he's overdoing it in places. No need for Haydn to sound like Couperin and Rameau (two composers Sokolov plays so excellently).
