"japanese Disney" - I hate when people put it like that bc it's never their own stuff but only an "asian version of ".

There's so much magic and whimsy behind the way Ghibli depicts their worlds. I wish real life was like that.

kiki is probably the main thing that made me fall in love with anime at a young age. I had the English dub on vhs when I was little.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of these movies. Ever. They are comfort movies, they’re there when I want reality to go away for a while. They make things better for a moment in time and give me things to think about and focus on when my mind is too loud with other things. Big thanks to everyone involved in the making of these treasures. We all thank you.

Studio Ghibli movies are actually amazing.
I watched a lot of films when I was a child and I almost forgot all of them and their storylines even though I loved them.
Yet, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle always existed in my mind. Surprisingly, when I was 16 I still remembered every single detail of the film. That's how much I love the film.

"Howl's Moving Castle" wasn't the first Studio Ghibli movie I ever saw, but it was the one that convinced me that not all Japanese animation would annoy the heck out of me. The art was beautiful, the story good, and the dubbing well-done, and most of the anime tropes that get on my nerves weren't present or were limited. It also holds a warm place in my heart because I bonded with some of my floor-mates over the movie my Freshman year of college. I didn't make many friends in college, because I was under a lot of stress and in the process of burning out, but those two were good friends, and helped me maintain my sanity longer that I probably would have otherwise.

I just love how much I smile whenever I watch a Ghibli film, even if the theme is dark and sad. There is still that magic in the air

Fun fact: Hayao Miyazaki never actually thought that his early manga drawings were basically copies of Osamu Tezuka's. As he writes in his book "Starting Point" ;

"I have absolutely no recollection of ever imitating Tezuka, and I have never thought that there was any resemblance between our styles, but people kept telling me that my drawings looked like his. That was terribly humiliating. "

"So when I was finally forced to admit that my drawings actually DID look like Tezuka's, I took out the sketches I had stored in the drawer of our (the Miyazaki family) dresser and burned them all."

Ponyo was the first film I watched, and there was just such a beautiful type of love between the characters where they loved each other without expecting anything back. It got me hooked as a kid because I thought that’s how it should be. It was such an innocent love that had nothing to do with romance and everything to do with falling in love with someone’s soul
