What we really need is an AI powered robot with thermal vision that will seek out and kill or capture any snake that it detects. An early version of this product might simply alert us to the snakes presence so that we can get rid of it. But eventually I want to kill the damn snake.

We have a snake in our garage, and my husband took a horrible fall and got an abrasion on his hand and leg trying to get the snake out of our garage. In his younger day, he used to take them out into the woods and successfully got rid of them. But as he is older, it has been much more of a challenge. I am terrified to get even 10 feet near a snake. One of his problems is that he has garage things overflowing under the cars and nice places for a snake to hide. We did take all the grass seed and anything that could be food for rodents out of the garage and there is no water source and placed them in a storage building that is impossible for snakes or rodents to live in. I am thinking about getting a gasket to put under the garage door to keep snakes and rodents out!

Is there any advice you have to teach my friendly and curious golden retriever to not fraternize with snakes? We moved to Texas and there are a lot of venomous snakes here. He just doesn't know better. They can get in our back. I keep the grass mowed and clutter free. Would a fake owl on the fence work to deter snakes?

Most snake bites in Australia actually occur because people are trying to kill or catch them. I am here because of a close (VERY close) call with a big Eastern Brown snake today - struck at me before I even saw it. They are blindingly fast and very aggressive so DON'T be a smarty pants with a shovel etc because they will strike faster than you can do anything. I am in the bush so cant remove cover and rock piles but I am reducing water sources by moving water troughs 100 metres downhill, catching any field mice in bucket traps and I am getting a good snake trap which I will use with great care as an extra measure. My silly Heeler will definitely get bitten if he sees one otherwise I would just enjoy seeing them around - magnificent beasties they are. I didn't think there was much first aid for a dog but glad to hear there is - I'll get onto it right away. Many thanks to the lovely Dr Leigh from Mick and Mr Patches :-)

Recently found a very mature black rattler which is considered the most venomous around here. These are good tips that we have started implementing.
