Remember as a kid, my mother and I would dye different color sands and pour them in to a tank. After a week you could see these awesome sand castles the sea monkeys would make. I'd say that was the highlight of having them as a first pet.

I had this little kit I got from a school book fair or something similar, which had little pets like sea monkeys. They're called triops and work basically the same way, with the resilient eggs and all that. The dish to keep them had this raised part to put sand in because the triops could walk around on land a bit. I thought they were really cool because triops are basically really tiny horseshoe crab-like crustaceans.

I have bad memories of sea monkeys, my family (mainly mom and dad? raised a few of them and they ended up having babies only for my dad to knock the sea monkey tank over, killing them all. This caused my parents to fight again. They're divorced now, but I still have unresolved trauma from their constant fights...
