Reset the timing belt tensioners for the Honda Acura J Series V6. This is how to reset both types. The one without the PIN is the better tensioner.

Genius Tools Zero OffSet Wreches:

If you see any signs of damage, leakage, worn parts go ahead and REPLACE the tensioner. Don't reuse a BAD tensioner, you are just asking for trouble if you do that.

Thanks for helping me. Your instruction on how to reset the tensioner was spot on. I now have my timing belt on and all the marks aligned. 2000 Accord with the 3.0 v6.

Thank you for making this video. It definitely helped me with resetting my short tensioner.

Save a tensioner pin from an old kit, or use a small allen key to re-tension the tensioner.

Stay gold.

Quality. Appreciate you! I forgot to install the shim behind the idler and have to take it back apart. I now have the "chirp" that is absolutely ANNOYING!

Great video. Alldata and Chiltons had no pictures on doing this.

Finally; some detail on this part of the process! Thank you. Quick question...once reinstalled after the T/B replacement - does it sufficiently self-tension, or is there any "re-expansion" process following the new belt installation? Seems a bit unclear online...thx again.

Is the fluid in the pre-2000 tensioner hydraulic fluid or just lubrication? When my 2005 tensioner failed, I wondered why they didn't just use a ratchet and it almost looks as if that's what the more reliable, earlier tensioner was.

Hey there I have an 06 tl and the hydraulic timing belt tensioner is going out and making a ticking noise on cold start I noticed it’s 2 10 mm bolts that go through it and was curious if it’s as simple as that or if I’d have to tear apart the whole timing belt. I can’t find any info on this at all so I figured I’d ask you

Can you install the new tensioner without removing the belt?

Sorry - on the preceding question - the SHORT version, pls. The long one makes perfect sense (rather like a brake cylinder), but the screw retainer in the shorty has me a bit confused...

Note for everyone in the future to read this according to Honda spec sheets ALL J series engines are non interference. The J series is the ONLY non interference Honda engine in the US as of this moment.
