Somehow Sam has managed to turn one of his Hellofresh recipes into an entire video topic

the simplest way to caramelize brussel sprouts is to simply cut them in half, put them on a flying pan with some olive oil, and fly each side for about 5-7 min. I used to hate brussel sprouts too, but once I started preparing like this, I just can't have enough of them, and it's super easy to prepare

the other thing is most vegetables in the broccoli family have sulfur compounds in them which gives them the distinctive musty, farty smell. Those break down at a high enough temperature, but boiling or steaming is not hot enough to get there. So when you roast or fry them at a high enough temperature those go away and you lose the body odor smell

My parents boiled Brussels Sprouts and put me off it for a long time. It was only when I panfried/roasted that sprouts became good. I showed my parents how to do it...and they went right back to boiling the things.

I have no idea how they stand it.

That F1 joke got the loudest groan from me in months. Well played Sam, well played.

As a person who didn't like brussel sprouts, I can say video has convinced and inspired me to try this worthwhile green

Random observation: The picture at 1:24 contains a 15 star U.S. flag. This means it is most likely either Baltimore (where the 15 star flag flew over Fort McHenry to inspire “The Star-Spangled Banner”) or New Orleans (where Andrew Jackson became a national hero by driving off the British, again with the 15 star flag).

I guarantee you Sam planned this whole video out after reading Speedia F1 and wanting to mention it

That Formula One joke was hands down the best HAI joke that Ben ever wrote. Good job, Sam.

I remember a time in the early 2000s when my mom made brussel sprouts for the first time and we all realized that we liked them. Growing up it was always a punchline to gross food jokes on cartoons. But now I regularly feed them to my kids and they love them. Also my recipe is olive oil, salt and pepper.

I've been telling people for years that roasted brussels sprouts are delicious and nobody believed me. I feel validated by this video. Also didn't know the people who didn't believe me are probably thinking of older varieties of stinky gross brussels sprouts, so that's good to know!

The F1 joke literally inflicted me with physical pain. And I absolutely loved it, good one.

Surprised that you did not mention that Brussel Sprouts is the same species as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collard greens and more. The same latin name. We just bred it into these different forms like we did with dogs. Changing the size and structure of the parts of the plant that was “in fashion” for your particular region.

We are still waiting for the answer to where the two trains meet, Sam. We are not here for bricks alone.

"I didn't think F1 could get any speedia"... just brilliant. Love it!

I've always loved them. As a kid i cried because my Grandma made me dinner one night, and made the mistake of making peas instead.

She later asked my Mom "What kind of weirdo kid are you raising?"

My mother used to absolutely hate Brussel Sprouts and as a result I never had any because we didn't make them. Ever.
Just recently we tried our hands on some nice roasted ones and my mom found she really liked them. So, apparently they really do taste better now!

0:20 I calculated it to be roughly 75.5 minutes for them to intersect. So about 222 kilometers away from brussels.

I love how whenever Sam needs "america" stock footage, it's usually of Baltimore from Federal Hill. Which honestly how it got it's name would probably be a great HAI video
