Welcome to The Wisdom of Odin! I’m Jacob Toddson, and I created this channel to explore ancient wisdom and spiritual practices from around the world. My journey began with Norse Paganism, and now I travel globally, uncovering knowledge on historical religions, shamanism, plant medicines, and various spiritual paths. Together, we explore how these ancient teachings can inspire and guide us toward a more balanced and meaningful future.

On this channel, I aim to foster unity and understanding across spiritual traditions, beyond boundaries of race, sexuality, gender, or politics. You’ll find an inclusive, open-minded space free from divisive content, drama, and bias. Join me as we discover and share the timeless wisdom that can heal and uplift us all.

When i was little, there was a particular tree in our backyard. I don't know what kind it was but it was big but not giant. Anyway i would sit under this tree and talk to it and tell it about my problems and play pretend with it. At one point i hung a necklace around one of its branches as a gift. It was just a natural instinct to want to do. Later after i gree up and moved away i learned my parents had cut it down and i was heartbroken about it. Our connection to trees is an important one.

Thank you for addressing the ecological harm from how some of these traditions are done. As a wildlife rehabber, a conservationist, and pagan the use of plastic and synthetic materials or any materials that can cause harm to our trees and wildlife has upset me for a long time. Not enough people talk about this.

Leaving a hair from your head, a piece of birch bark, don't peel the birch but a bark on the ground is fine. A chip of untreated wood, a reed a large leaf. There's a lot of alternatives out there.

There's nothing wrong with putting your wish into a pine needle (or other conifer needle) and then gently tying it loosely around a branch as a replacement for clootie tying. I think if the tree is private to you or your family/group then it ok to use natural fiber clothe because it shouldn't be too many people doing it to a single tree.

I remember tying yellow ribbons to trees around our town shorty after 9/11. Didn't know this was an older tradition!

Organic biodegradable please! Respect the environment, I agree!

Even cotton might last a bit longer than the tree might like. Maybe something more loosely woven, like an unbleached muslin...or perhaps even paper?

Hmm...not sure where to obtain natural-fiber ribbons. I guess if they're hard to find, a handmade clover necklace or reed concoction might fit the bill... :)

I cut my prayer/wish ribbons from cotton fabric.

I wonder if using seashells instead of coins would be environmentally friendly.

I love this but don't see a link to the ribbon you are using 🤷‍♀️

How about not putting stuff in a tree...
Some traditions better can go, this is one.
A little natural offering is better, but not hanging anything.

Sorry for offtopic question but who to do an offering in case of wanting better health or healing?

Jacob, are you a man of faith? I mean, do you really believe in something concretely?
