Skil Classic Jig Saw 3 2 amp Model 4395 Pt 1 Teardown

The Restore had a bunch of tools laying on the floor just inside of the door. It was a big haul. After the shutdown they brought out the whole 3 months worth of donations that had piled up.
I already had at least one of every tool in the pile. Not much that looked worth picking up. There was a Skill Classic Model 4395 3.2 amp Jig Saw that was $7.00. As such it was under the budget threshold and it looked okay. I plugged it in and tested it. The motor turned so I figured it was okay. When I got home I tried it. See previous video.
It cut but it wouldn’t orbit. Great I had something to fix. This series is about what I did to make it work. 😁😎

The position you put it in to turn blade is for scolling the other positions for orbiting make the blade move forward and up and down at diffent amounts for more agressive cuts but you wouldn't wantvto scoll doing that so the blade is locked not to turn . The saw is workng as intended

Just picked up this exact saw today at ReStore for $15. Looking forward to putting it to work! This video is super helpful. Thanks!

i like they way when you put first screw in pan it went in on end the ads back in the day showed you used the knob to cut curves with one hand rather than just turn the saw

I have the same saw and I can't find a manual either. I even tried with a Skil representative and she couldn't find a manual. Skil did something very silly, which is reused the model number 4395 on their new models, making it even more confusing.

What grade (?) of grease did you end up using? I have the same model. Very little run-time on it, but old grease is old whether the tool is frequently used or not, so I'm thinking it's time to refurb it. Thanks.

I tried to reassemble my unit but am having problems with switching to full orbit mode. I can only do so when the blade is slightly offset from the forward direction. I think I messed up by removing the gear that connects to the switch that changes the mode. I’ve been at it for 5 hours at this point. Can anyone advise on how the gear + clip + switch + ‘teeth log’ thingy that ‘clips’ at each mode is supposed to be configured?

The base is too far forward. The degree adjustment is in the wrong hole. The back of the sled should line up with the back of the sticker on the side. Then it rotates from the rear position just fine. I was using mine today.

Eating a couple sandwiches and watching Old Sneelock fiddle with a Jigsaw for a half life get any better than this?

I never had luck with Skill, like Sony any product I ever had from both those companies failed me... Hope you can save this one! 😃👍

I just pack it the resat with double-O. The 'O' thins out the thick and the thick stiffens the 'O'. And if it slobbers a bit I always know there's some inside of it. Done with the roof and need to paint before it goes up. I'll probably ly the oil base green to it because we can always change it if we need to. Toots is thinking about redoing the whole place. Sounds like a plan. Now it won't look like a Florida She's talking a soft green. Anyway, no flamingoes in the yard. That was her brother and the mower ate it. I really didn't mean for it too but I didn't get too torn up when it did. And I gave the remnant to the well man when he came to recharge our backwash filters. All's well that ends well. So thanks, Unc! Happy Motoring as a certain Marty would say!
