Intended to serve as the replacement to the outgoing E-Type Jaguar, and following the footsteps of some pretty historic “XK” vehicles, such as the XK120, 140 and 150, the newcomer has some pretty bold shoes to fill! Developed in the early 1970’s with initial styling done by Malcom Sayer. Sadly, with his passing in 1970, he never saw the final product. Final design was done by Geoff Lawson, and, based upon the XJ car platforms with modified wheelbases, the E-Type replacement, called the XJS, was introduced in 1975. The cars ran for a single generation, with periodic updates and facelifts all the way until 1996, when they were replaced by the XK8. In 1981, the “H.E.” Series, otherwise known as the High-Effeciency series, saw a redesign in the V12 engine for better fuel consumption, including Lucas electronic fuel injection and a high-compression fuel-stratified high-swirl combustion chamber with flat-top pistons developed by Michael May. 1991 saw the final facelift for the XJS, which would remain unchanged until its demise in 1996. Our 1990 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible was the last of the H.E. Series cars and was built at the Whitley Plant in the historic Cathedral City of Coventry, England in March of 1990.
