If your OB-GYN determines that your pregnancy is high-risk due to multiple gestations (such as twins), underlying medical conditions (such as high blood pressure or diabetes he or she may refer you to the specialists at the Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine, to identify potential problems early and accurately.

Throughout the process, your OB/GYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine Center specialist collaborate in managing and controlling risks as they monitor the health of your baby. Chances are that the pregnancy will be totally normal, but the patients may need further attention and a higher-level ultrasound.

A lot of women visit the Center with feeling very apprehensive, especially if they've received an abnormal test showing the possibility for Downs Syndrome or the potential for an abnormality with their baby. Most of the time, the parents are reassured that they will have a healthy pregnancy.
