The coefficient of friction is independent of mass, but the friction force is dependent on the normal force (weight)

He should have repeated it with the weight in the other box to demonstrate redistributing the mass didn't change the results

There is also a difference in angle between dynamic and static friction.

If the object is not yet in motion the friction coefficient is high which means you have to tilt the bord higher for it to get moving, if however the object is already moving the friction voefficient is a bit lower which meabs even if you put the bord dow a bit, it won't stop moving.

It sounds like the mass inside the bin moves just before the bin moves. Sure the CoF is the same regardless of mass for the plastic to the wood, but it's probably lower between the *metal weight* and the bin. This let the weight slide first and inpart force into the bin, which let the heavier bin break free slightly sooner.

Don't forget that he is only testing the static friction here. Objects are first at rest and at some point the gravitational force along the plane is greater than(>) the frictional force in the opposite direction hindering the movement of the object; thus, causing it to finally move downwards the plane. However, when the object is finally starting to move, at a critical angle, we now need to consider a new frictional force, which is known as the dynamic frictional force of the body. Both frictional forces are dependent of the normal force and are proportional(!) to it. Thus the proportionality constant will be the coefficient of friction. We have 2 coefficients of friction as we discussed; that is, the static and the dynamical one. And with these coefficients follows a bunch of different inequality problems that a working professional needs to have in consideration.

Friction force is calculated as coeficient of friction between two body and normal force which subject on that surface. If we have heavy body that the normal komponent of gravitu force will be bigger than the friction force will be bigger.

However, it should be pointed out that Coulomb friction is just a rough approximation. It shows even in this experiment.

The difference in the slipping time is due to the difference in inertia so it takes more force to move the object so the two objects should slip in difference times .

The fun thing about the largest possible static friction force: it was discovered by Leonardo! (see J. Duran "Sands, Powders, and Grains: An Introduction to the Physics of Granular Materials")

Me watching that the video has exactly 6³ ( = 216 ) comments

One word that makes a difference is inertia

the test did not prove his point well because the mass of the objects is too small. If you apply it to bigger objects his point would be proven more easily

Otto once said: "je schräger das Brett (Brrrt), desto kürzer das Sssst, desto eher das Bums" - quod erat demonstrandum.. He also stated the "very special theory of relativity" ... (i guess)

It starts slipping when the
downhill-slope force is greater than the tangent of the angle of slope.

I’d have retested with the mass in the other bin.
Also test the bins starting positions as there may be differences in the board (as he mentioned)
From that experiment it is not obvious what he is saying, it’s almost directly counter to what he said.

to be more convincing, he should have repeated it one more time swapping the boxes 😢

In india class 11 students study about coefficient of friction

The experiment is void for what it is intended to show. Experimental physics needs more effort to be put in for providing proper evidence.

I have gotten into way to many debates over the course of my life about how this doesn't work for tires and grip.

Question: what if you fill one box with water and the other with the same weight as the water. (Of course the water has to stay in the box when he tilts). Wouldn't the waterbox go first?
