Jeez, in high school, our coaches told our kicker "NEVER hitch, never stop your leg" swing through an empty space if the ball isn't there then keep going to get out of the way because the play is f---ed after that, pure chaos. Because if you wait just a half-second, then your kick is getting blocked anyway.
