I used to have a MS 180 and was looking for a new one without any luck. I bought the MS 182 tonight hoping to not be disappointed.

Just bought a clone 180 for $120. Normally I would say the Chinese knock off don't have the QC of Stihl products, but we all know Stihl phones it in for their home owner products. Biggest advantage to going with an older style import? Fully adjustable carb and standard side bar adjustment. My primary saw is a 362 and I would never consider anything besides OEM for my bread and butter work horse, but for a milling saw or a light homeowner option, Stihl needs to up their game to be competitive.

I don’t know many batteries lasting 20 years so that’s why I love the gas power

The 182 is heavier because. Stihl had to install their 2-MIX system to keep supplying to the European and other markets because of their over compliant emission laws, meanwhile the Chinese are bumping out old school technology chainsaws, and exporting them to the same market that Stihl is trying to compete in.

Go with another brand that is as good or better and less expensive

A spring, a slightly better filter and a couple of twist caps dont add up to 1.5 lbs or a 20% increase in weight with no virtually no power gain. Stihl probably rounded it up to get that 0.1 hp gain. Very sad to see Stihl has gone this direction. I suspect its to make the electric stuff look more appealing and its not working. The day Stihl goes all electric is the day we part ways

Debating what to buy, plan to start burning wood, after 25 years not burning, but I have issue with left arm, heavy saw will lock my arm against chest, and will hurt several days after only 1-2 hours of use, so I only can use very light saws, unfortunately, I love my vintage Homelite XL12s, but can't use. So I have several Poulan wild things, and a Stihl 192 plus Dewalt 20V but thinking of something new, but light weight?

MS180 is no longer made. So unless a store has old stock, people will be buying the 182.
