Before the arrival of the Spanish in 1519, Mexico and Central America (including Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize and Guatemala) was home to some of the most advanced civilizations in the World, including the Maya, Aztec, Zapotec, and Mixtec peoples. These civilizations built great cities that amazed the Spanish, developed sophisticated writing and calendrical systems, and engaged in extensive trade networks. However, the Spanish conquest, led by the infamous Conquistador Hernán Cortés, resulted in a dramatic transformation of the region.

The collision of these two civilizations—indigenous Mesoamerican societies and European imperial ambition—resulted in the creation of modern Latino identity, a blending of indigenous and Spanish bloodlines. Colonization brought not only a new language, religion, and customs but also a reshaping of political and social structures, often at the expense of indigenous autonomy. The conquest nearly wiped out these Native groups, but indigenous cultures proved remarkably resilient, influencing everything from language and cuisine to spirituality and artistic traditions.

Mexican is a nationality not a race. Indigenous tribes in America are diverse.

Most people does not know that Mexicans had more than 3, 000 years history, divided in three periods, preclassic, Classic and finally the post Classic that ended before the spanish invaders, they developed, corn, cacao and rubber to name a phew, so not having horses was not necessary for their developmen, when europe was inmerse in the dark age, Mexico was thriving.

I know I’m Mexican, but my great grandmothers were Sicilian and Cuban, great grandfathers Spanish and Huichol. I don’t know what DNA they come from. I like to think I am a citizen of the world. My DNA is so diverse it’s hard to pinpoint just one. And I know the great majority of Mexicans are like me.

Chicano here from LA. Both sides of my family are from Mexico. My mother’s side; Sonora Mexico; near the Arizona border. My father’s side; from Guanajuato and Aguascalientes. My DNA has me at 37% indigenous Mexican, and a little over 50% European (Spanish, Portuguese and Basque), Iberian peninsula. Most people think I look Mediterranean, sometimes middle eastern. Just my two cents. Love to all🕺😎

Ok but can Africans quit claiming they're aboriginals and Native Americans... It's almost like they're ashamed of their culture and feel the need to claim another

I am a Filipino with Native American ethnicity as shown from my uncle's dna results. This is the effect of Manila-Acapulco galleon trade.

I’d like to learn more about Denisovan DNA in these populations in a future video for sure. Thanks for an interesting video!

My mom's family is from the Huachelo tribe in Jalisco. The family members who tested their genetics are very high in the Native DNA, over 50% and higher, with no African genetics.

I am Mexican. I have Spanish, French, Italian, British, Northern European, and lots of Native American ( Aztec/Mexica, Maya, Purepecha, and Olmec region) DNA. However, I have No DNA from Asia or the African continent. My Native American DNA is completely Western Hemisphere. If anyone has a problem with this, they can take it up with the companies that run DNA tests. I'm not losing sleep over it!

I wish there was a timeline and a map that went along with this video. It would be easier for me to understand when and where everything originated.

While I am obviously mostly of Northern European ancestry, I am also in small part Haudenosaunee (Mohawk & Seneca Indian). I also have a very small trace of Siberian ancestry (Yakut / Evenki). As for very ancient "Caveman" genes I have an almost 2:1 ratio of Denisovan (2.8%, high for a European) to Neanderthal (1.5%, low for a European). This ratio is a clue to my Native American ancestry. people with Native American Ancestry often don't show up in genetic analysis because the databases are very poor because Natives forebid the collection of their blood or genetic samples. Most of the data that does exist is for South America, Central America, Western North America, and the far North. Eastern North America has close to nothing in the databases
