Lene Marie’s work and ambition inspired Susanne Sundfør to collaborate with her when Lene asked, composing the original soundtrack to the film ‘Self Portrait’. It became the last piece of art she created as she passed just after the finalisation of the movie.

Lene Marie Fossen was one of Norways leading photographers who suffered from severe aneroxia almost all her life. She was only 10 years old when she became ill. She was hung up on the calorie chart and stopped eating certain foods. She wanted to stop the time when she was ten years old. She did not want to grow up, and eventually stopped eating. She denied her body from starting puberty, and struggled with severe anorexia from the age of 13. For the last 7 years of her life, she ate nothing. She drank only nutritional drinks. She died in 2019 at the age of 33. Then she weighed only 17 kg.

The film is a raw and honest insight into her acclaimed photography and her struggle with aneroxia. In her film-project she wanted to «undress» the disease, show it in all its horror. How it is to live with it. Expose the shame, confront the disease, break its rules for survival. She always had an inner glow from which she created, regardless of adversity. She really wanted to live and when she took pictures she forgot that she was sick and felt free. In the documentary we see Lene Marie photographing refugees in Greece.
She managed to see the movie before she died. Together with her parents, she decided that the film should be launched on schedule, it was important for her that her story could mean something to others and maybe help them.

Thanks for doing this reaction.
I'm always happy when people reacts and likes her music. She is so good, she deserves to be more known. Her is the voice of an angel and her music is as beautiful as her voice.

both women became immortal with this one here. let them run, those tears.
the scenes from the vernissage, the guy giving lene a hug, this is morten krogvold, a photographer and tv-host, he did an interview with lene. i think it was very short before her death, where they talk about her work and her illness. i can highly recommend to watch it. it's not less sad, though.

there is only one music video that is similar tough to watch, at least for me. it's a masterpiece, really! filmed in stop motion. steven wilson, routine. if you don't know it, go for it.

So happy you have gone back to Susanne Sundfør. But I wanna press you to do more of her, because her catalogue is so diverse and varied, its dark, its bright its from simple song with just a piano to almost poplike dance songs, and they are all very very good.
Try out her live version of the Brothel if you want a darker song, or perhaps try Accelerate if you want more of a poppy sound, or Leikare ljod if you want bright almost gopsel like songs :D

Oh, you are now on the line with scandinavian musicians. Besides Aurora my favorite female singers came from Scandinavia (the male ones from UK or America/Canada), don't know why. But i like the vibe, such as Eivor, Maria Solheim, Emiliana Torrini, Tina Dico and Charlotte Eriksson aka The Glass Child (a more unknown independent musician, songwriter and author, too ----> if you want, check her out).
By the way, know her and a great voice, too.

❄🎇 ☀Thanks Saeed ☀🎆❄
....Nice thumbnail : ' Deeply moving ! '
Lena Fossen was born in 1986 ... ( a year older than you )
I believe she was 31 when she passed .
She never went through puberty due to not enough nutrition .
Lene said her inspiration to stop eating was wanting to stay a girl / youth .
I think the thought processes are similar but can be different for everyone .( a spectrum )
🥀My late sister had both Anorexia and Bulimia when she was in her teens 🥀
When she was older and healthy she worked in an eating disorder home as a counselor ...
They actually routinely weighed the employees of that establishment
because it can be triggering to relapse just as other addictions .
~ You were speaking of the similarities to alcoholism .
My mom and I spoke about it recently ... When my sister was my age now ( she was 5 years older than I ), she was overweight ...
Mom said she traded one issue for another ... Food and her relationship with it was never properly functional .
Some of the video images are from her taking photos in Greece and Syrian refugees arriving there .
🌼Susanne Sundfor, the vocalist, is seen sitting bedside in hospital with Lene 🌼
