For context, since very few of us online know where this is:
The Nolichucky Dam is a couple miles south of Greenville, TN in the far eastern section. It's about 45 miles north of Asheville, NC.

I used to think that life was grand
Living on fertile land below the dam
But now I don't feel so lucky
Living beneath the Nolichucky

🚨DON'T WAIT FOR THE DAM TO BREAK.
LEAVE ASAP.
It WILL be life threatening.
Geez the last news lady needs to learn more about dams breaking.
Just don't wait until after the break when you can't leave.

Nolichucky Dam was built by the Tennessee Eastern Electric Company (TEEC) in 1912-1913 for hydroelectricity generation (per Wikiepedia)

🎶Way down yonder on the Nolichucky, learned a little about livin, and a lot about floods.🎶Sorry, it just popped into my head. Please everyone just go where its safe for a little bit, don't take any chances with water.🙏💛

A mile? Seriously? Just a mile? Please tell me I misunderstood. Get your butt out of there even if you are a significant distance away.

Interesting that nobody mentions the state. The only reason I realize it’s Tennessee is because I recognize the TVA acronym, Tennessee valley authority

Local radio just reported that the dam is still intact at this time.

We need to upgrade our dams in this country.

Oh man this is really heartbreaking to have to watch people lose their homes like this. I know there are some who don’t have insurance. Praying for all of those near this area that they can evacuate safely. Our hearts and prayers are with you. ❤❤❤

Our bridges have mostly collapsed or impassable, no water and no power. I live on the side of the Nolichuckey River closest to the mountains in Greene County TN. Our town is 2 days away from running out of "clean" drinking water. Businesses are closed unless they are essential. It's a mess.

News is so weird these days. They make simple stories so confusing. They show video of a failed dam, while talking about a dam that might fail.

Then when they decide to broadcast a live report from the actual dam, its so dark that its pointless be there.

I cant even hardly watch the news anymore because they are just completely inept at every level.

Update that the news isn't talking about Greene county water reserve is underwater and severely damaged they have two days of water supply for Greene county they have code red for our water supply and is implementing emergency turning off all water supplies to non-essential buildings in town restaurants car washes etc Our town only accepts cash because all card readers are down. All bridges leading into Greene county are either closed underwater or gone people are trapped between bridges and can't get home can get out can go one way and can't go together I love the awareness about our town but it's more severe than news are important about he can get a whole lot worse

Wow, this is super scary 😳. It's wild how something built so long ago can still affect so many people today. Hope everyone is prepared and takes it seriously! We gotta respect nature and stay safe! 🌊
