Lived in Oakland 2001 to 2012. I had to get out. It’s not that it has a bad local government, it really DOESN’T HAVE a local government. The elected people are paralyzed by fear of offending various “protected classes”, so it is a train wreck. Glad I left.

I've partied, hung out and driven around in Oakland a lot over the years living in the Bay Area. One thing I can say for sure is that the cops don't go to certain parts of Oakland, and there's almost no such thing as a parking ticket. It's a lawless land.

Oakland has a long history of dysfunction: excuses, blame, no accountability, nihilistic attitudes. Combine that with high crime, political enablement, bad policies, self destructive attitudes. It’s a shame. So much potential. As a Black building manager recently told me, “If I call the police when crimes are being committed, my condo owners get upset because they’re anti-police and woke.”

And doesn't Oakland have a chapter of the notorious Hells Angels? Could there be a big drug market there perhaps?

This clip seems to imply that a growing population is what determines its sucsess. Any region with too many people is bound to collapse.

Crime drives poverty. And speaking of crime, what was the events that led to the segregation during WW2? Because of lack of workers due to the draft and war recruitment, industry in the north and west coast recruited workers, mainly blacks, from the deep south. Large black populations grew in LA, Oakland, Detroit, Chicago and other war industry areas. Cities that had very few blacks suddenly had large numbers. The slave subculture common within the southern black community is a likely source of some of the hatred.

Was born and raised in Oakland, East 14th and 98th, Seminary and Lake Merritt. I left at 19 and at 65 I've been back to visit maybe 10 times. I thought it was bad growing up there but today it's an insane asylum.

Tell me you never have been to Oakland without telling me you’ve never been to Oakland. You made a whole ass video about declining manufacturing of a “rust belt city” that’s not even in the rust belt whose sports teams happen to be leaving and never addressed the socio economic realities of a rapidly gentrifying minority driven blue collar suburb of San Francisco.

I am glad Oakland politicians stood up to corporate welfare and refused to spend obscene amounts of public funds so billionaires can have a stadium when we all know there are many higher financial priorities the town absolutely should focus on. Sorry the schools are underfunded, but how about the raiders shiny new stadium kids.

Oakland lost an insane amount of money to bring the raiders back from LA in the mid 90’s to build Mt. Davis. The Warriors cost the town even more money with the renovations to the arena and building them a practice facility on top of a parking garage. And then the classless warriors skipped out on paying back their portion of the bill. Good riddance.

Drug use wiped out the moral fiber, and the welfare system kicked the man out of the Home. Also many say they refuse to " act \/\/ hite, whatever tf that means. I like all the bay area, but it's a shame when their homes are behind bars, and their criminals get off scott free.

I lived on the edge of Berkeley in 97 and loved it, dt only a mile or so away. A crackhouse new subsidized housing skyscraper a crackhouse new subsidized housing.... great but expensive train service, worlds biggest lesbian bar and some great mostly black ones. Still was never out after midnight. Had a swimming pool with a huge palm tree growing in it! And when I asked a black chick if I could wash my car with hers over a 20 ft fence you would have thought I was invited to a Chicago Thanksgiving dinner. Wtf happened to Paradise?

What can be done to fix this city? I wish it was a smaller San Francisco.

If SF peninsula sunk into the ocean, Oakland would become the premier city in the bay area. 😂 That's what it's going to take lol.

Delicious, except for the white bread. Eli's Mile-High Club (Blues nightclub) offered cornbread Johnnycake for $1 each poured to order, hot off the grill, with butter.... mmmm
