Excellent video/advice yet again. Everything is accurate. There a few things I’d add from my own personal experience.

- Praise and acknowledgement. When they do things well, you’ve got to praise it. A simply ‘well done’ is enough, you don’t need to go OTT.
- Never criticise a team member in front of the team. If I have a bad negative to rely, I’d do it with them in private.
- For staff in a trainee type role, encourage them. For example, let them know it’s okay to make mistakes as it’s part of the learning process. Have patience with them.
- When appropriate, involve your team in decision making processes. They can be big ones, if appropriate, but even small decisions like whether or not to have a recycling bin can help a little to make them feel involved.

At the end of the day, nobody is perfect. I do not think I am a perfect manager myself, and I am sure there’s someway I could improve. If we strive for perfect, we may reach excellence, though. Excellence is acceptable and obtainable.

Great tips and just what I needed after a difficult day. It's nice to know that I'm doing some things right! Asking for help is my weakness. Not because I have much of an ego (I don't think I do) but I'm embarrassed to ask. I'm only a few months into the job but I have a really good team who always offer to help explain things for me so I'll be taking them up on that more now!

Thank you very much for this important information. We really need such information to improve ourselves as managing people with different believes and level of commitment is difficult. Thanks you so much. Will try to implement some of your advices.

All great advice! Beware of the pre-existing toxic employee. Following some of these actions.... can be just what a toxic employee needs to start undermining you. Unfortunately. You may have to do some housecleaning from day one. Love ya Don! You could fit ANYWHERE.

Leaders have a shared sense of purpose with everyone in the organization and everyone can tell. And that purpose is honest and truly shared in all aspects. Too many people take this for granted . Managers have measurable policy but not always shared purpose. Guess which one builds trust faster, better and longer lasting especially in times of trouble? Go longer on shared purpose and shorter on measurement and see what happens.

Thanks for the video, very informative. My personal experiences categorize this character for leadership role instead - video does raise the bar for managers though!

I'd like to learn how to take existing employees into the same frame as those I personally hire. I always have a great deal more success from those I personally hire rather than those already in place. Those employees I hire seem to turn out much more successful at their particular position(s). The majority of employees I hire, upon moving state in their closing interview (conducted by someone else other than myself for honest their favorite part of their was working with me. The mutual respect is so much more experienced with those employees that I personally bring on board. I treat the employees the same but the outcome of success with pre-existing employees vs those employees I have just are not the same.

Years ago I was lied to about a promotion. I was homeless and found a place. I had to quit last minute. He (my manager) cussed me out and I told him maybe if he'd been honest with me I'd have considered trying to find a way to stay. Well, six months later the company went out of business.

I've just been offered a manager position, but to be brutally honest, I don't feel like I can cope with the pressures of the job. I also find that people are increasingly difficult to work with these days - I mean, to the point where it can become very unpleasant to manage anything.

I hear point 1: ask for help, but it doesn't work for me because of 1 person I supervise who doesn't want to share information when I ask. she is bitter because I took the position she applied for but did not pass the interview. How do I then supervise a bitter employee?

Is it possible to see a text summary of the 5 tips? I don't have enough time to watch the video.
