Frank encounters Helen twice: once by coincidence in the base commissary and once when he brings his upset teenage daughter to the dispensary for care. Helen tells Frank that the girl is simply growing up in a too-crowded home without a mother's direction. They click right away and go on a date, but they are avoiding disclosing their individual secrets: Helen has eight children from a former marriage that ended in divorce and Frank has ten children from previous unions that ended in death. After learning of their similar situations, the two are reluctant to pursue a relationship.
