Ibanez RG1070PBZ - NAMM 2017 (first full review)

If you like aesthetic wood types and top-quality hardware, then you'll love this Ibanez RG Premium series electric guitar. It's made from many different types of wood, starting with American basswood for the body and poplar burl for the top. But, what makes this guitar go from ordinary to extraordinary is the impressive 11-piece (!) Wizard neck made of wenge/bubinga/maple/purpleheart and featuring an exotic wenge fretboard. All these types of wood combined result in a tonal palette unlike any other.

ok, I want to be helpful and not slamming or being mean here, I LOVE the way they look, but here we go, the cleans sounds low and out of tune slightly. I had to crank of my studio speakers just to her it, I am not going to pick at your playing, it's not really about that, everyone from Steve Vai, to Lee W. from Dawson, all just move the pickup selector and play immediately with maybe one word to say, moving to the next one, no explanation, you can talk about the pickups way later, on a post review summary, people want to hear the difference, and if you explain each one on your preference, its a long time to wait with impatient guitarists land or yt land, lol. I actually enjoyed getting a clean view of them and appreciate the time you put into this, it can be tweaked though, for the ear, someone below said you should talk only or more, for me, I would say talk less lol, not because you do it not well, but because we want the star of the show, the guitar to be played and showcased, reviews are tough, and everyone is a critic, including me, but you sound genuine about doing better, so that is my humble advice for what is worth, take care and keep them going!

The thing i don't like, is that you ultimately don't know what sorta " cut " of wood your gonna get, i have watched a few other reviews on theses and they all have different looks, some with more definition and some with less wood burl or knots and more just bland wood grain; given the neck has like 11 pieces...it kinda makes sense as to why its so expensive. The binding is a really nice comeback, i remember guitars having them in the past but now they have popped up again, still....a prestige is better than a premium in terms of origin and craftsmanship but it could be boiled down to preference but technically a prestige is better, then a J. Custom etc....

For something almost being 2g's...it better comes with a bomb ass case, maybe similar to a molded prestige case.

If they didn't put their II series trems on these I'd be much more tempted to get them. Or vice versa I'd be interested in a prestige if it looked anything near this good. Prestiges just look boring and premiums still make compromises hardware wise.

Major fret buzz and out of tune. Sounds like a Wal-Mart guitar. Looks cool though.

I think this is a quality instrument but, something is a miss. When you begin playing, listen closely. Fret buzz. I think it just hasn't been set up properly and the action is too low. I also suspect it's slightly out of tune. I will say it is gorgeous looking but another thing I don't understand is why it has locking tuners. The strings literally lock in the nut.. locking tuners are not needed here..
