A Common Chaffinch singing Chaffinches can be heard singing from late winter / early spring through to early summer. It’s a simple song consisting of descending notes that end in a flourish. The male sings to attract a mate and defend its territory from rivals.

Thank you My Birding Year as always for the wonderful video. What a beautiful bird the Chaffinch is, lovely colour and markings. I loved the beginning with the butterfly, an added bonus.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend 😊

I’d been trying to work out what the unusual chirping was that I could hear in our garden and now I know - a chaffinch! We have a lot of large, mature shrubs and trees in our garden so we don’t always get visuals of all the birds that come in but we hear them.

Lmao funny how the chaffinch banished the red admiral with its loud call
