McDonald's President on deadly E. coli outbreak linked to Quarter Pounders

The CDC is investigating a severe E. coli outbreak, spanning nearly a dozen states linked to McDonald’s popular Quarter Pounder hamburgers. The outbreak has sickened nearly 50 people and has caused at least one death in Colorado. NBC’s Maggie Vespa reports for TODAY as McDonald's president, Joe Erlinger, gives his first interview since the outbreak.

The sliced onions, which are suspected of being tainted with E. coli, were not obtained directly from individual McDonald's restaurants; rather, they were delivered from a central distribution center that supplies several restaurants; in other words, the problem lies with the onions provided by the distribution center rather than any possible improper handling at the restaurant level.
