The transparent tank is becoming reality!
The nature of threats to Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) has evolved many times in recent years with improved conventional ATGW and hand held RPG type threats, the employment of complex improvised explosive devices and the creative use of drones, all of which now make operating heads up or with hatch open an extremely hazardous activity! This evolving dangerous operating environment prompted HENSOLDT to develop a future leaning solution to this problem – the See Through Armour System, shortly named SETAS.
SETAS provides the crew with an all-around view from inside their AFV day and night! Hostile forces and vehicles can be detected and recognised at longer ranges with the identification being at some three hundred metres. The integration of additional sensors such as hostile fire detection, missile approach and laser warner’s into the SETAS capability offers even more security.
Since all external interfaces comply with the new NATO standardization (NGVA), SETAS can easily communicate with other systems, enabling the crew to use their own furnished monitors, tablets or even head-mounted displays.
