CLIP STUDIO PAINT:

Hello everyone and welcome to me just chatting about finding your drawing style! I'd like to make a disclaimer, I'm not a professional. I don't really give myself the authority of someone who has been in the industry or even university. I still have a long way to go myself. My goal for this video was to share with you all the methods I'm experimenting and things I've learned from other artists currently as I'm improving my art. 80% of this video is me saying things I constantly need to tell myself too. It's funny how much knowledge I have to share when I still need to put it into practice myself. I think I could spend more time drawing everyday and more time studying from life and better artists. My intention is to inspire others and encourage people that we are all in this boat together. 2020 was a hard time on many artists mental health too, including mine. But I'm choosing to move forwards still even if it's hard. I think everyone's art journey looks different and it's okay to struggle. I'm struggling constantly with feeling like a bad artist, but the point is to keep going even if I don't feel like I'm improving. One step is more than staying where you are forever! Let's do this!

I've really been enjoying tutorials from @ergojosh , he's a really smart guy when it comes to studying from reference. Here are two of his videos dedicated to drawing faces. I found them helpful to me:

I think this actually really helps me as young artist as well, instead of other artists I have watched tell what to do and not to do

i just want to say, you sound very passionate throughout this video, and i can tell by the shake of your voice, by the enthusiasm, that you love what you do, that you aspire to be the best you can
i respect that. you may not be a professional yet, but you're definitely on your way there, keep it up!

I really love what you've said about styles. There are so many descriptions but yours makes the most sense. It really is just personal taste.

To finding your style, one thing I tried and succeeded at was drawing characters from memory. It helped me improve my muscle memory and helped me not trace

I like to sometimes just challenge my friends on discord, to draw along with me while sharing their screen, just to push each other forward and learn something. During these art hours there is no right or wrong, we are mean to each other, sometimes make fun of each other, just being blunt to point out each others flaws, because in the end, it might ruin our friendship, but its 100% pushing each other and outside of art hours, we are nice to each other hehehehe

i am drawing while you speak and it’s soo calming. it feels like someone is drawing with me. struggles in art come back and forth, i ‘think’ i’ve been doing okay with hairs and eyes then i suddenly struggle, i think it was probably because my personal preferences has changed. i was so obsessed with trying to find my art style back then, whether it was anime, realism, landscapes, whatever, but i never knew i could mush my preferences in one piece back then. I had struggles for months, feeling like it was a chore doing art, it was so discouraging. Now i feel so natural with my drawings, i feel sooo free, i know i’ll struggle. But art is just so enjoyable.

I’m really struggling with making my characters’ faces look different from one another. So far my only ways to make them stand out are eyelashes and eyebrows

Commenting for the algorithm to notice this because I think this video has good perspective on how to find your style with intentional practice vs blind practice!

One day I hope to be as good as you! But right now, I just have to get a better drawing tablet and focus on practicing.

Honestly one thing that really inspires me to keep on drawing is seeing how artists who inspire me start off!

Edit : I'm only halfway through but I feel so much better about everythiiinnggg. Simply put, let me say your style, I love it since all of your character's poses are so fluid and every character shows their personality just by their appearance😭💚💙🤍💚💙🤍💚💙🤍
