Just over three years ago, my previous landlord decided to sell up, so I needed to find a new flat in North or East London.
Rent is a joke- and i found a beautiful riverboat being rented for a quarter of the price of a london studio flat.
I so wanted to take the boat option. Unfortunately, personal circumstances meant that I wouldn't be able to. Ended up moving out of London entirely.
However...
As soon as my youngest finishes school, I'll be looking at the boat option again.
Living within the confines of a 1 bedroom flat is not for me. I feel like i'm locking my own jail cell every night.
You, my dear, are very lucky. And I hope that one day, we will pass each other along the beautiful canals of Great Britain and wave at one another from across the river. 😊❤

all good in the summer, but from experience the damp, the cold and the constant need for pumping shit or maintenance is not for the faint heart. Having good practical, mechanical and innovative skills are very useful.

I had a commercial narrow boat for six years that I lived on. I sold coal and wood in the winter around Ellesmere. I would definitely go back to that way of life if circumstances permitted.

my dad passed away a bit ago, I remember when he would take my brother and I on a canal boat, I miss that, but I also left England so I am not in a place for narrow boats.

My sister-in-law and her family lives on a boat in and around Paris, they make a living from transporting building materials. It's cool just very small for them with a toddler and one on the way.

It seems like a very cool lifestyle to me, but I've always wondered about one thing. And that's how you maintain friendships. Because i see my friends every week and that's also very important to me. How do you manage that aspect?

If I could, I would. If I won the lottery, a narrowboat would be the first thing I would buy, but sadly, I wouldn't be able to use it very often as my husband is in a wheelchair. I could have an adapted cruiser on the Norfolk Broads, but that isn't the same.
