that's really cool, i've seen this kind of ring before. but didn't know the significance, useful too, it covers all the bases. single and looking, taken, engaged, and married. so smart

The only reason i already knew about this is because Angel gifted one to Buffy before he went all Angelus on them.

I was hoping there was a, “not interested in dating, and single option.” But I guess It’s kinda a moot point since most ppl I know wouldn’t know about it anyway. 😅

Bavarian dirndl (dress) apron bows go "unavailable", "looking for company", "spoken for (in a relationship)" and "widowed (not the same as unavailable" by the relative position on the person waring it.

I got the pleasure to study abroad in Ireland in 2017 and my mom bought me (thank goodness, I didn’t know it was bad luck to buy your own!!) an original Thomas Dillons claddagh ring that I haven’t taken off since! I’m now engaged and am so relieved I’m wearing it correctly still! One French girl told me I was wearing it wrong but I knew she was full of it because the staff taught me how to wear it properly!!

I love that basically every culture has some sign of symbol tk show a relationship status. In Austrian and Bavarian traditional clothing, the sash of the apron is tied on different spots (left front, right front, back middle) depending on your relationship status.

I loved my Claddagh ring! I wore it for over a year and a half before my now husband proposed to me!

Thank you! My parents got me one when they went to Ireland and they said it had relationship status significance when wearing it but didn't know how exactly one was to wear it.

i have my great-grandfather’s claddagh ring. it’s very simple, just silver with a gold heart, which i personally love so much more than the super fancy ones with stones (although those are pretty too!)

i wear it on a necklace right now because i don’t have the time or money to get it resized, but i will eventually because it’s a lovely heirloom

I wear one. I do have Irish heritage, on my moms side. My dad got it for me because I lost while swimming the one I had found in an old jewelry box. It looked similar to the one in the video. I know to wear it heart upside down to show single and heart right-side up to show spoken for. I wear it on my left hand though. Guess I need to change that. I didn't know there was a difference between right and left hand lol.

I knew about this as someone who is smitten with Hozier and his music, and as a result have become smitten with all things Irish. I have a beautiful diamond and gold claddagh ring that I wear everyday, and I've been learning Irish mythology, history, customs, and even Gaelige. I'm no expert by far, but amateur means "to do out of love", so I'm in no rush 💚

I love that. Can this just be required so I know who I’m allowed to flirt with 😂

I remember learning this and then noticing it on my physical therapist (I knew beforehand that he was engaged though)

I bought my own claddagh ring from the National Museum of Ireland. It’s a sterling silver one. I’m not waiting on anyone to buy me anything. I have my own money. I see it, I like it, I wanted it, I got it 🎉

My mother got me my first claddagh ring when I was 18 and I’ve worn one ever since. Unfortunately, my ring size changed, so I had to buy a new one in a different size this year, but I’m keeping the original one for sentimental value. Mom approved of the new one, so hopefully the good old Irish luck is still there even though I bought this one myself ❤

I have one from when I was younger, my Papa got it for me for Christmas one year.
When I got engaged and we were ordering our wedding rings, we got matching leather bands stamped with a claddagh design
I now wear my original ring (which has seen some serious wear and needs to be sized down before i can wear it again) on the necklace my husband gave me when we started dating
