Liscard was thriving 50 years ago - Woolworths, John Menzies, M&S. I had a Saturday job at Safeways when I was 16! I used to drink at the boot- girlfriend lived around the corner. Landlord at Royal Oak was Steve Moss? Used to be fire station over the road. I left Wallasey in early 80s and rarely go back, so nice to see how it is nowadays. Fond memories but glad to be elsewhere now.

Like all towns and cities these days, shops have shut down and been replaced by the same type of shops. Everybody buys online or go to bigger shopping estates. Wallasey of my youth was a busy, thriving town. Shops were busy and pubs and clubs packd on a weekened. Up the road in New Brighton, when the sun was out, it was heaving. There wasn't much to do there but people love the seaside. Even after the amazing outdoor baths were knocked down in 1991, crowds still flocked. I left 35 years ago but go back to see family and its rare I meet someone I knew. Think most of my generation have left.

Grew up here, live in OZ now. Love going back as often as possible but it is not like it was. I walked these roads everyday, not one shop is the same. Its a real shame

thank you for posting this, born in Liscard 1952, grew up there and stayed there till I was 27, left for New Zealand 1978, some things not changed there, but it looks cold and strange now, but loved growing up there, had my reasons for leaving and they all seemed good at the time, had my wedding reception in the Boot and loved Safe ways and all the vibrant shops and pubs and New Brighton with all its attractions....life is strange.

There is no boundary between Liscard and Wallasey, Liscard is part of Wallasey.

I used to work in the Co op department store...yep, a multi level department store on five floors! If people could see what Liscard was like in the 1960s they would weep.

That was my beat area in the early 80s. Now it just seems to be estate agents and cafe/restarants. What happened to Safeways, Littlewoods, John Menzies the army and navy store, etc?

4:20 Three story white building. Top left hand window was my office window when I worked in Liscard early 90’s. The building to the right was Midland bank. The pub opposite these buildings, I’m glad to see is still there. Had many a drink on a Friday evening after work there. The Tower pub. 🗼🍻

That was interesting. But I didn't have a clue where I was. A street name might have helped but perhaps you don't like doing that. I lived there as a small child. I like seeinng the red bricks again. Thank you.
