Plomari is the first populated town of Lesvos ( 2,996 inhabitants - 2011 census) after the city of Mytilini .
Plomari is located on the southern coast of the island at an altitude of 20 meters and is considered a traditional settlement. It is about 39 km southwest of Mytilini. It was built in its current location around 1842, when the fear of pirates disappeared and it is crossed by the Sedunda river .
In the center of the settlement is the church of Agios Nikolaos built in 1847. It is a three-aisled Aegean basilica with a marble spire. The hallmark of Plomari is the plane tree in the central square of the old quarter, which, as it is said, was planted in 1813. Sights are the large waterfront square and the park with palm trees, as well as the hero with the monument dedicated to the volunteers who fought for the liberation of Lesvos in 1912.
