Truth. My dad was 17 when he first tried to enlist.

People were so patriotic because we felt like we had a lot to lose.
FDR was willing to give us everything we needed to fight and we were ready and willing to put the work in.
It was not just a bottom up thing it was also a top down kind of patriotism.
We would do well to remember that.

Because volunteers or draftees came from every corner, every stratum of society. One for all, and all for one! Not a huge Kennedy fan but they sacrificed one son and had another act in a heroic manner, Teddy Roosevelt's son died serving, Glenn Miller disappeared, Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart flew combat missions so did Lindbergh. The rich and powerful had as much skin in the game as Guiezeppi from Newark, Smith from Iowa and Jones from California! It truly was the last "good" war.

I wish our society was more patriotic these days, but if WWIII is what it takes, I’ll pass

The people were so patriotic children aged 14 years would even lie to try and get in the military 😢 imagine a 14 or 15yr teenager talking to another teenager and coming to the conclusion that the only thing that is of importance to them, they actually decided to go to the worse war with the expectation of a very large percentage of the soldiers wouldn't come home, so at 14, 15 or 16 years old they would lie to the military to go and fight for their country and their freedom, 😢😢 could you imagine anyone these days having so much conviction for anything that doesn't help or profit themselves? 🤔🤯

This person is lovely. The subject matter is great. One note, music can be emotionally manipulative. Let him say what he says in his way, let me feel what i feel because of him, not because you want me to feel something you control. Thank you.

My grandma was 19, living in Michigan, had to take 2 trains to & 2 back in order for her to go to work building bombs. She was Rosie the Riveter (one of the many).

Back when being an anti-fascist was synonymous with being a patriot... We could learn a lot from these people.

Nonsense, most rural people thought the war was avoidable.

The greatest generation for a reason. We'll never understand. Not yet anyway.

And today, the kids would be protesting based [99% of the time] purely on their parents beliefs. Most of whom know very little about what they're talking about, but it makes them look tolerant and "good".

Imagine 15, 16 year olds today trying to lie their way into the army so they could go to war. Granted, our last 2 wars were fought for almost no reason, but do you really think it would be any different if it were "just"? I don't. They/the media/their parents would find some way to make it unjust, problem solved.

That generation is currently spinning in their graves hard enough to power Tokyo.

It's kinda sad in away that they never really used that stuff it was more of a propaganda thing.
